The Power of Precision Series:
The Knee

Learn how to earn 25 CEUs or Contact Hours for this series.

Learn about Dr. Benjamin's Video of the Month Plan.

With unprecedented clarity and precision, this comprehensive program teaches effective treatment strategies for 23 specific knee injuries. By integrating concepts, assessments, and specific techniques for each injury, you will learn to:

  • use accurate assessment tests
  • palpate the anatomy of each injured structure
  • treat the injury with clearly-detailed techniques
  • incorporate exercise therapy for injury rehabilitation
  • apply theoretical concepts

With his characteristic expertise, precision, humor, and insight, Dr. Ben Benjamin incorporates lecture; step-by-step explanation; visual examples using both live models and cadavers; hands-on demonstrations; and detailed technique applications. He makes highly technical and complex concepts clear and accessible. See full descriptions

Included with the purchase of the six professionally-produced videotapes or DVDs on the knee (averaging 45 minutes each), you will receive an additional program that is the foundation for the entire Power of Precision series - The Essential Principles: Assessment and Treatment Strategies for Soft Tissue Pain and Injury. This program is also available for purchase individually. (See description below)

The cost for the full set of 7 DVDs is $300.00 + $15.00 for shipping and handling.

Program 1 - The Knee: An Overview
This learning program provides a big picture introduction to the knee. The program shows: all of the anatomical relationships of the ligaments and tendons of the knee; all of the testing/assessment procedures the practitioner will learn in great detail in subsequent programs; every essential history question; and all injury combinations that might be observed simultaneously in the same person. This program orients the viewer to the relationships between various injuries. It also sets the stage for the other five programs that follow.

Program 2 - Collateral Ligament Injuries
This is the first detailed learning program. It begins by teaching the specific anatomy of the medial collateral and lateral collateral ligaments. This is done using a cadaver, a skeleton and then a live model. Unless the practitioner can find the structure, it is difficult to test it and treat the common injuries that occur in these ligaments. The assessment tests for collateral ligament injuries are taught in great detail. Next the information is pulled together in a theory section. With this preparation practitioners then learn the myofascial, friction, and massage therapy techniques to treat injured medial and lateral collateral ligaments.

Program 3 - Coronary Ligament Injuries
This program teaches the assessment and treatment of the coronary ligaments. These ligaments and their commonly injured structures are fairly unknown. The medial and lateral coronary ligaments hold the medial and lateral menisci in place. Injuries to these ligaments can be very confusing. They are frequently mistaken for torn cartilage, an iliotibial band strain or arthritis in the knee. If properly assessed and treated accurately with hands-on therapy, these very common knee injuries, along with the swelling, usually disappear. The anatomy, assessment tests, and treatment techniques are taught in great detail.

Program 4 - Patella Tendon Mechanism Injuries
This program teaches all of the injuries associated with the patella quadriceps tendon mechanism. This confusing structure is often involved in running injuries and frequently causes the client pain while climbing or going down stairs or hills. This massive structure can be injured in seven different places. The anatomy, assessment tests and treatment procedures cover suprapatella tendinitis, infrapatellar tendinitis, tendinitis in the tendon body, the medial quadriceps expansions, the lateral quadriceps expansion, the medial retinaculum and the lateral retinaculum.

Program 5 - Distal Hamstring Tendons and Fascia Lata Injuries
This program covers injuries to the hamstring attachments at the knee and the distal tensor fascia lata attachment. All of these structures frequently masquerade as knee injuries because they attach to the body at the knee. Tendinitis of the hamstring at the knee is often mistaken for a cruciate ligament strain, a medial collateral ligament injury or a coronary ligament injury. Assessment and treatment strategies for injuries to the attachments of the semimembranosus, semitendinosus, biceps femoris and the tensor fascia lata are taught in great detail.

Program 6 - Identifying Complex Injuries
This program teaches how to assess and understand the many injuries that hands-on therapy does not effectively address so that the practitioner knows who can be successfully treated and who should be referred to a physician or other specialist. Cadaver anatomy, client history, assessment tests, and effective treatment modalities are covered for 13 injuries, including torn menisci, loose body in the knee joint, dislocating patella, suprapatellar bursitis, infrapatellar bursitis, prepatellar bursitis, and Osgood Schlatter's disease.

The Essential Principles - $59.95 DVD, $30 VHS
Incorporating material that Dr. Benjamin has synthesized over the last 23 years, this program teaches all of the basic principles and theories needed to understand the pain and injury assessment and treatment process. This Essential Principles program provides the foundation upon which all the other learning programs are built. The program is organized as a series of short segments teaching and demonstrating each essential principle. The concepts addressed are: injuries (the secret of chronic injuries, external and internal scar tissue, the meaning of referred pain in Orthopedic Medicine, the significance of ligament laxity); assessments (resisted tests, passive tests, active tests); and treatment modalities (friction therapy, exercise therapy, injection therapy). Principles to enhance a person healing capacity are also reviewed. You can obtain 4 CEUs or Contact Hours for this program. The Essential Principles is included when you purchase The Knee Series, at no additional charge. To order call 1-866-331-Pain or 617-576-0777.
